STEPS TO BECOMING AN 

APARTMENT RESIDENT

 

1.  The prospective resident selects the apartment desired.

If the apartment is available, the application for residency must be submitted within 30 days.
If the apartment is not available, the prospective resident is put on a priority waiting list.  When notified of availability of the desired apartment, he/she has 30 days to submit the application for residency.

2.  Prospective residents submit:  

                                                  a)  Self-Sustaining Application
                                                  b)  Copy of Your Current Membership Card
                                                  c)  Confidential Financial Statement
                                                  d)  Medical Doctor's Certificate of Examination

The above forms are reviewed for approval by designated representatives of the Elks National Home.  A $100 per person non-refundable Application Processing Fee is required to be paid with the Application.

3.  Once the application is approved, the applicant is contacted by telephone and mailed a Resident Occupancy Agreement, which must be signed and returned within 14 days.  A Reservation Deposit of $10,000 is required at the time the Resident Occupancy Agreement is signed.

A $1,000 penalty will apply upon withdrawal after the application is approved by the Home and the Resident Occupancy Agreement has been signed.

4.  The balance of the Occupancy Right Fee, minus the $10,000 Reservation Deposit, is due upon or prior to arrival.

5.  Payment of the applicable Monthly Fee begins at occupancy or 60 days after the application is approved.

The applicant must take up occupancy or begin to pay the Monthly Fee no more than 60 days after the application is approved.

Health Care

 

Although we cannot accept those already in need of assistance or supervision, we have a section for residents who become in need of assisted living after they have passed a three month probationary period.

A physician is available to residents during scheduled office hours at the Home.  The resident is responsible for all charges, which will be billed by the physician's office.  The Home will bill for any medicines or supplies received. There is a charge of $65.00 per day for inpatient care in the Special Care (assisted living) unit in addition to the monthly service fee.

For residents who need hospital care, Bedford County Memorial Hospital is located 1.5 miles from the Home.  Our medical records department will assist you in filing your Medicare and other insurance claims for outside medical treatment.
